A Storm in Itself

When the film itself becomes a storm, can the crew have a just as strong resolve?

03

The short film, Heavy Rain, was almost shut down from production at one point in it's creation. During pre-production, a suitable location for a funeral home was established. There was the full ability to alter the place and use of the building. However, just 72 hours before the first day of filming, the location was bought out and it was lost. In just a few hours, the producer, William Blue, and director, Brian Nissley, came together and manage to acquire a sound stage and a team in order to fix this situation. By managing a team of 75, they were able to take that sound stage and rebuild the funeral home you see in the film in just less than two days. The finishing touches were placed moments before the camera began to roll. The film was saved by quick thinking and a hardworking team.

The facts

Love and loss are fundamental parts of being human.

02

Audience Takeaway

We are brought into this world to be loved and when we leave it, we create a void. Everyone eventually becomes the receiving end of loss; it is something we will all experience at least once, if not multiple times. However, not everyone knows how to cope. This film is for them. In Heavy Rain, the storm is a metaphor for depression. As it strengthens, Marc's resolve must as well. Whether or not he survives depends solely on his ability to fight through the pain of loss - the well of depression - to live another day. The audience should take away a sense of understanding, hope, and most importantly, a healthy expression of the human experience.
